Many thanks to all the wonderful people who donated items to the Friends of Murphy Library’s annual Silent Auction, the Cooking Supplies Sale, the Cookbook Sale, and the Book Sale!

Thanks also to the hard-working volunteers, the library staff, and the finger food makers.

Most of all, our deep gratitude goes to all of you who came to the auction and found one, two or many treasures. We made over $2,900 from the Silent Auction and over $550 from the Cooking Supplies, Cookbook and Book Sale. Funds will be used to enhance the Cherokee Cultural and Research Center that is being established in the Genealogy Room for all to enjoy.

Get ready to open your pocketbooks! The Murphy Public Library Silent Auction and Cooking Supplies & Book Sale take place Friday and Saturday, August 17 and 18 at the library on 9 Blumental Street, Murphy, North Carolina 28906.

The Silent Auction runs  from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. when the bidding sheets are taken up and calculated.  The Cooking Supplies with wonderful cookbooks in addition to the kitchen items, and the Book Sale of fiction and nonfiction runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, August 17 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 18.

Each day different items will be featured in the Silent Auction and every donation to the auction has been exceptional.  Most recently local artist Mickey Altenderfer donated two portraits she painted of Native American men.  Mickey is a descendent of several notable Americans, among them, Penobscot Indians.

Mickey Altenderfer shows Jeff Murphy the two portraits of Native American men she painted for the Murphy Library’s Silent Auction on Friday and Saturday August 17 and 18.

Here are some other items to browse through.  Don’t miss the imaginative candleholder made from a wooden branch.

Friends’ president Elo-ly Bailey and her husband Corey donated a cute kitty jigsaw puzzle with a matching bag. Notice the antique school desk and red carryon that are also in the Silent Auction.

Three special items at Murphy Library’s Silent Auction Aug 17 & 18: the red, black and white afgan by Kathy Bolyard, a pizza paddle by Tom Yorkovitch, and a long candlestick made from a tree branch by local craftsman Bill Hounsell.

We have two big events coming up in August.  Our Crafts, Supplies and Book Sale takes place on August 2 and 3 from 9 to 2.

Our Annual Silent Auction, Cooking Supplies and Book Sale will be held August 17 and 18.  I recently photographed some of the wonderful items donated for the Silent Auction.  It runs from 10 to 1 both days.  Bidding stops at 1 p.m. and then you see what you’ve won!

Are you a Civil War buff?  There is a beautiful plate and a dvd you might bid on.  Or are you more interested in having a spot of tea?  Nora King donated a Starbucks Tea Set and Wanda Leatherwood from Nantahala Regional Library brought in a lovely Coach purse.  Local shop Blue Moon Elise has donated a pretty package of lotions for you or someone you love.

Heroes of the Confederacy plate and Civil War, America Divided DVD are some of the items at the Murphy Library’s Silent Auction.

Watch this blog for more photos of items at our Craft and Craft Supplies and Book Sale (August 2 and 3)

and for our Silent Auction, Cooking Supplies, Books, and did we mention special shelves of cook books for those of us who love to collect them?  Also, Sharon Hibberts of Pampered Chefs and Sande Kimbell of Willow House will take orders from their current catalogs.  Ten percent of all sales they make will be given to Friends of Murphy Library.
