In the next movie at the Murphy Library, Bill Murray is the voice for a bear and Ben Kingsley for a panther, in an award-winning live action/computer-generated imagery film based on stories by Rudyard Kipling. Lupita Nyong’o, Scarlett Johansson and Christopher Walken assist in this story about a young boy raised by a wolf.

The library is showing the 2016 film The Jungle Book this Thursday at 6 p.m. Running time is 106 minutes and the film is rated PG. Some animal fights in the film may scare pre-school or young elementary school children.

The young boy is hated by a vicious tiger and finally decides to leave the jungle. He gets help from the bear and the panther.   Soon he learns the value of friendship, family (especially the non-traditional kind), and his own courage.

The Murphy Library’s Thursday movie at 6 p.m. from Film Movement is the war drama, In Syria, about a mother trying to keep her family safe as war rages and a sniper waits outside her home.

Trapped inside her house in a city under siege, a mother of three turns her flat into a safe harbor for her family and neighbors in an attempt to protect them from the war raging on the streets of Damascus, in the latest from director, Philippe Van Leeuw. Filming location, Beirut, Lebanon.

Running time is 85 minutes and not appropriate for those under 17 years old. Language Arabic with subtitles in English. Call 837-2417.

Memories of going to the circus every year when you were a kid will come flooding back after watching the next movie at the Murphy Library. Hugh Jackman stars as a poor, orphaned boy who has a different way of looking at the world and lots of imagination. Slowly he learns how to put the characters he meets on the street up on stage for the world to get to know.

The library is showing The Greatest Showman, the 2017 biographical musical about P. T. Barnum and the beginning of his circus this Thursday at 6 p.m.   Running time is 105 minutes and the film is rated PG. It won a Golden Globe for Best Song: “This is me,” written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.   They created the music for La La Land. So be prepared because you might want to get up and dance.
