The library is showing Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, a 43-year old film that never gets old, this Thursday at 6 p.m. Gene Wilder stars in this story by Roald Dahl. It is rated G and running time is 100 minutes.

After you take your kids to see this film, don’t miss coming to the library on Saturday at 10 a.m. for Youth Services Librarian Bridget Wilson’s celebration of the Candy Land game. Only this time everyone plays a life size version.

If you’ve been hungry for the sight of a Northeastern coastline try to see Moonrise Kingdom, the next Murphy Library comedy/drama made along the edges and forests of Rhode Island. A young boy and girl fall in love and run away as chaos ensues and the town searches for them.

The library will show Moonrise Kingdom Thursday at 6 p.m. It is rated PG-13, runs 94 minutes and has a wonderful cast: Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Bruce Willis and Frances McDormand. The two kids are good also.

Director Wes Andersen, who made The King’s Speech, co-wrote the screenplay with Roman Coppola, son of Francis Ford Coppola about two children who don’t fit in. The film offers surprises, funny parts and is often moving.

In spite of the Rhode Island shore you won’t get homesick for the South. Hank Williams’ songs follow the travelers, along with music by Benjamin Britten and Mozart.

Here’s a question for mechanics: how do airplanes take off from an aircraft carrier? Disney’s fun movie Planes is the next film at the Murphy Library and it shows the take off method and other secrets of flying aircraft. Geography also plays a big role, such as deciding the best route: over, around or through a mountain.

A crop dusting plane has aspirations to go far and he enters a race to do just that – fly around the world. Only there are lots of bigger faster planes ready to fight for first place. The library is showing Planes, an animated PG-rated family film Thursday at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome – you don’t need to be a kid to enjoy it. Running time is 91 minutes.
