The Friends’ dinner and auction at Doyle’s last evening was a great success. The food was delicious, the music was magnificent and Tim Ryan was masterful as the auctioneer par excellence. Thanks to all for bidding on the beautiful items and to those who donated such treasures. It was so good to sit and talk to new friends and old.

Friends’ Potluck Tuesday, May 20 at 6 p.m.

Here is another chance to meet more Friends’ members and learn a little something, too. At the next Friends potluck this Tuesday, May 20 at 6 p.m., local computer whiz and culinary expert Nicky Grant partners with Sandra McKinney, culinary arts teacher at the Penland Senior Center to teach “Artisan Bread in 5 minutes a day” – an easy way to bake bread from scratch.

But the learning does not stop there. Nicky Grant will join Friends’ board member Sonia Roberts to share the secrets of selling items on eBay.

Friends’ members and prospective members are invited to bring their favorite potluck dish for the 6 p.m. dinner meeting. Call the library at 837-2417 for details.

Friends of Murphy Library are holding our annual fundraising dinner at Doyles Cedar Hill Restaurant on Andrews Road in Murphy on Thursday, May 15, starting at 6 p.m. Doyle’s is filling our plates again with salad, chicken piccata, linguini, vegetables, coffee, tea and dessert.

Tickets are $25 per person and may be purchased at the Murphy Library or $28 at the door at Doyle’s. Everyone is welcome. Call 837-2417 for details.

But that’s not all!!! That wonderful auctioneer Tim Ryan will be there to auction off some winning items. Chief among them (so far) is a beautiful black leather western saddle.

Leah Bryan, Murphy resident and daughter of Brenda and Charlie Bryan, likes riding horses along with reading Nancy Drew mysteries. She recently inspected the saddle on display at the library. 2014LeahBryanSaddle
The Fabtron hand-crafted western saddle includes tack, bit, and wooden stand, all in excellent condition.

Written bids for the saddle can be made at the library anytime. The final bidding will be conducted by Tim Ryan at the Doyle’s dinner on May 15. Additional auction items may be brought by the library anytime.

There are plenty of good cooks among Friends of Murphy Library, but they deserve a night off, don’t they?  Especially when the Friends are holding their annual fundraising dinner at Doyles Cedar Hill Restaurant on Andrews Road in Murphy on Thursday, May 9, starting at 6 p.m.

As musician John Desjardins helps everyone forget their cares and woes, Doyles will fill their plates with salad, chicken piccata, linguini, vegetables, coffee, tea and dessert.

Tickets are $25 per person and may be purchased at the Murphy Library or Coconutz computer store on Valley River.  Everyone is welcome.  Call 837-2417 for details.

Because of this special dinner, the library is canceling the previously scheduled movie.

We had a good time last year at Doyle’s – don’t miss the fun, the music and the food this year.

Friends of Murphy Library’s fundraising Dinner at Doyle’s is this Thursday, June 14, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person and are now available for purchase at the Murphy Library.  Easy listening singer songwriter Judith Beyer will be serenading us.

The chefs are cooking up a “Pasta Buffet” with Chicken Picatta, (tender breast of chicken sautéed in butter lemon caper sauce), grilled vegetables, linguini with marinara sauce and garlic bread. Yum!
