Do not miss the Murphy Public Library’s annual Silent Auction of art, unique items and multiple gift certificates beginning Thursday, August 25 at 9 a.m. and ending Saturday, August 27 at 12:30 p.m. when winners will be announced.
Also the Cooking Supplies and Book Sale take place on Friday, August 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Our wonderful donors have cleaned out a kitchen cabinet or two (or three!) and donated the items they no longer use, such as funny cookie cutters just waiting for a ten-year-old to use. Take a break from bidding at the auction and walk to the back breezeway to see what’s there. Also, check out the book shelves for more summer reading.
Call 837-2417 for details.

The Friends of Murphy Public Library are holding our major fundraiser this coming Friday, August 9.  The Silent Auction will be overflowing with treasures in the meeting room from 10 a.m. until the final bids are picked up at 2 p.m.

Meanwhile volunteer Nora King and her compatriots have spread out the goodies in the back breezeway of the library with Cooking and Kitchen Supplies and Book Sales: wonderful cookbooks have been donated, and nonfiction and fiction books fill the bookcases.

Don’t miss either of these sales!

Friends’ board member Karen Francis has donated one of artist Kym Miller’s Underground Railroad messenger dolls. This has a special meaning to the arts community and those who loved her art since Miller passed away recently.

Gift baskets are always popular at Friends of Murphy Library’s silent auctions and on July 2, members of the Friends met to discuss the various baskets and the goodies to be included this year.  Everyone chose a theme, such as a basket of coffee items or one for tea. Another will hold apple products. For travelers, there are gifts from Mexico.  And a golf basket will be waiting for the bidding to begin.

The Murphy Library’s Silent Auction fundraiser is scheduled for Friday, August 9th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m in the library meeting room.  There will also be a Kitchen/Cooking Supply & Cookbook Sale the same day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the breezeway at the rear of the library.   Donations for these fundraisers to support the Murphy Public Library are appreciated and can be dropped off anytime.  Call 837-2417 for details.

Friends of Murphy Public Library met recently to discuss themes for gift baskets to be included in the Friends’ Silent Auction on August 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Auction volunteers include Karen Francis, Jeff Murphy, Winkie Stiles, Elo-ly Bailey, Jan Ruiz, Nora King, Carey Randall, Bonnie Allen, Donna Munizzi, Micki Singer and Connie Long (from left). Donations are welcome anytime.

Friends’ board members Bob MacLean and Mike Moumousis did the ultimate job for the Friends’ Auction.  They picked up the Shopsmith Mark V tool system, loaded it in Mike’s truck and took it to Bob Grove Auctions.

Come to Friends of Murphy Library’s Auction this Saturday, August 7, and buy it for your favorite person.  He or she will thank you for a long time.

The Silent Auction begins at 5 p.m., the Live Auction at 7 p.m., at Bob Grove Auctions, 7540 Highway 64, Brasstown, NC 28902, 6 miles east of Murphy, NC on “NEW” US 64.  Phone: 828-837-9200.  Free refreshments. Donations of finger food welcome.

But the Auction is for everyone —-handy or not —– want to go out to eat?  We have gift certificates to restaurants.  Want to get your hair done?  Bid on one of our beauty salon certificates.

Friends' board members Bob MacLean and Mike Moumousis are all smiles as they survey Steve and Jane Hembree's donation of a Shopsmith Mark V tool system to Murphy Library's auction.

Longtime supporters Steve and Jane Hembree donated the Shopsmith Mark V.  The single machine contains a table saw, lathe, disc sander, vertical drill press and horizontal boring machine and fits into a two by six space.

The auction has something for everyone.  Cooks will find cookbooks, dishes, a Carolina Crafting apron, and wear a Silva Gallery scarf while preparing trout from Andrews’s Carolina Mountain Trout.

Still hungry?  Restaurant gift certificates include everyone from Doyle’s to Downtown Pizza, from Arby’s to Antica Roma.

Wagonmaster Adventure Ranch offers one night, Holiday Inn Express two nights. Bear Creek Mini-Golf, an outing for four.

Sue Ellen Woodford’s gift baskets coddle everyone from fishermen to coffee drinkers, with donations from Clay’s Corner, Yarn Circle, Blue Moon Elise, China Town, the Daily Grind and Wine, Calaboose Cellars, Dr. Dave Peters, and Crane Creek.

Animal, mineral or vegetable, whatever your heart’s desire, we have it.  Cash or checks accepted. Proceeds buy juvenile nonfiction at library.   Call 837-2417.

Great news for the Murphy Library’s auction bidders!  Especially if you love New Orleans cooking.  Panama City and Murphy residents Sue Ellen and Woody Woodward are offering dinner for 8 during Mardi Gras season with traditional food, music, and favors at your home.  No beverages provided but plenty of fun!
Sue Ellen has been Queen, and Woody, King, of one of the New Orleans’ Krewes. They know Mardi Gras.

The Murphy Library has the best patrons in the country.  These are just a few of the wonderful items donated for the August 8 auction.  Squint your eyes just like Robbie Burns would and you can see a little book of his poems.  Or check out Mike Lalone’s light blue-green vase.
