A young boy has grown up in an orphanage separated from his birth parents. However, they were musicians and the boy finds that music is in his blood when he picks up a guitar one day.

This Thursday at 6 p.m. Murphy Library is showing August Rush, a PG-rated drama filled with music that all ages will love. Running time is 114 minutes and filming was done throughout New York City.

The boy becomes a musical prodigy and knows that music can bring people together, whether it’s the music of Bach, Beethoven or Van Morrison.  Freddie Highmore, Keri Russell, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and Robin Williams star. Call the library at 837-2417.

Do not miss the Murphy Public Library’s annual Silent Auction of art, unique items and multiple gift certificates beginning Thursday, August 25 at 9 a.m. and ending Saturday, August 27 at 12:30 p.m. when winners will be announced.
Also the Cooking Supplies and Book Sale take place on Friday, August 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Our wonderful donors have cleaned out a kitchen cabinet or two (or three!) and donated the items they no longer use, such as funny cookie cutters just waiting for a ten-year-old to use. Take a break from bidding at the auction and walk to the back breezeway to see what’s there. Also, check out the book shelves for more summer reading.
Call 837-2417 for details.

The following is just a suggestion. After watching the next movie at the Murphy Library, married couples may want to go home and search for their marriage license to make sure everything was signed, sealed and delivered.

The library is showing My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 a romantic comedy this Thursday that is full of laughs and it is rated PG-13. Running time is 94 minutes. The film stars Nia Vardalos and John Corbett.

A long-married husband and wife might have been too much in love to look at the details on the day they got married. However, fifty years later they discover their license is lacking a major detail.   Their priest tells them the only way to fix this is with a do-over, as in do the wedding over.

The Friends of Murphy Library’s 2016 annual Silent Auction runs from Thursday August 25 ending on Saturday, August 27 at 12:30 p.m.

In addition, the Cooking & Kitchen Supplies Sale takes place on Friday only, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donations of kitchen items may be dropped off at the library anytime.
