Brasstown resident Bob Grove and his wife Judy have been strong supporters of Friends of Murphy Public Library since its beginnings.  In addition has a special interest in geology, gems and minerals.  He will be combining both by sharing his discoveries of “Gems in the Mountains” with Friends of Murphy Public Library at our potluck on Tuesday, August 20 at 6 p.m. in the library’s meeting room.  Bring your favorite dish and come to learn more about our mountains.

Bob, ca. 2007

Bob majored in biology in college, minored in psychology, and took numerous courses in geology.  Those gems and minerals he studies help him delve deeper into his love for the earth.

He also is teaching a popular “Mountains and Minerals” course in October at the John C. Campbell Folk School, taking students on field trips to collect specimens.

Bob will bring in specimens of rocks and minerals from Southern Appalachia, perhaps creating a special interest for someone else.

Membership in the Friends is $10 per year and new members are always welcome.  Call 837-2417 for details.
