Coming-of-age mystery from Australia

Posted on: September 19, 2018

It is the 1960’s and Charlie Bucktin, a 14-year-old boy in a small town in Western Australia loves reading books by Mark Twain. Reading helps as he encounters the stresses of growing up amid family pressures and then finds he has a difficult mystery to solve.

This Thursday at 6 p.m. the Murphy Library is showing Film Movement’s coming-of-age thriller from Australia, Jasper Jones. Running time is 105 minutes and the film is not rated but would be appropriate for teens and adults.

One night, Jasper Jones, an outcast of mixed-race knocks at Charlie’s bedroom window and takes him into the woods. Jasper shows Charlie the dead body of young Laura Wishheart, but swears he didn’t kill her. Charlie believes him and goes quietly in search of the killer. His journey is dangerous, especially with the racists in the town.

Film Movement allows us to advertise and show their films one time in public. Then it goes into the library’s collection for anyone to borrow.
