Oscar-winning war drama at library

Posted on: June 5, 2017

Many reasons push someone to decide on a life of pacifism. One may be their faith, another may be living through violence while growing up. However, during World War II, refusing to carry a gun was not an option, at least until Desmond Doss arrived for basic training.

This Thursday at 6 p.m. the Murphy Library is showing Hacksaw Ridge, Mel Gibson’s Oscar-winning war drama. The film is rated R for intense graphic images of war violence. Running time is 139 minutes.

The commanders do not know how to push Doss to pick up a rifle.   Encouraging the other soldiers to beat him up and ordering a court-martial do not work. Finally Doss is made a medic and goes into battle with no way to defend himself.   But in the end…..he was awarded the Medal of Honor.  Watch this movie to find out why.

Call the library at 837-2417.
