Let’s celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday– it’s March 2!

Posted on: February 25, 2017

This Thursday, March 2, is the birthday of American writer, cartoonist, animator and artist, Theodor Seuss Geisel, known to all as Dr. Seuss. He was born on March 2, 1904 and the world lost him on September 24, 1991, but his books remain for all to enjoy.

To celebrate this special day, the Murphy Library is showing two of his stories on film this Thursday at 6:00 p.m. The Cat in the Hat is about a certain cat visiting two children, and The Lorax is about a wasteland needing the advice of a wise forest creature. Both of these films were made in 1971 for TV.  Running time is 30 minutes for each animated film and the whole family is welcome.

The library also has many books by Dr. Seuss just waiting for young readers to turn their pages.   And to honor him, the National Education Association designated March 2 as Read Across American Day to encourage everyone to pick up a book.
