When the writer of a screenplay based on a Jane Austen novel previously wrote for Saturday Night Live, you know you might be in for a lively couple of hours, especially when a pretty young matchmaker is involved.

This Thursday at 6 p.m., the Murphy Library is showing Emma. a romantic comedy starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeremy Northam, Ewan McGregor and Toni Collette. Running time is 120 minutes and the film is rated PG. The director and screenplay writer, formerly of Saturday Night Live is Douglas McGrath.

Emma is an upper class young woman in 1800’s England who lives with her widowed father and delights in pairing her friends up with men she thinks are the perfect match. However, she is not always right, though she stays blissfully oblivious. Then one day she realizes she has made a dreadful mistake.  Call the library at 837-2417 for details.
