Guitars, rock songs and family in library movie

Posted on: March 14, 2016

If you play the guitar or just love rock songs, you will enjoy Ricki and the Flash, the next movie at the Murphy Library.   And who would be playing the guitar?   How about Rick Springfield and Meryl Streep?  The library is showing this film about strumming a guitar but remembering to be a mother, this Thursday at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Running time is 101 minutes and the film is rated PG-13.

A woman leaves her family behind and moves to California to pursue her dream of being a rock star but twenty years later she must return because her daughter desperately needs her help. Her boys want to see her too, although it takes them awhile to realize that.

Meryl Streep spent several months taking guitar lessons, then she practiced two long weeks with the rest of the film’s musicians.  They would not let the director see them during this time.  But at last they let him into their practice room because by that time — they were a band!   Call the library at 837-2417.
