As the Murphy Library movie begins a cyclist is killed in a hit-and-run accident on Christmas Eve. Then the film turns back to the events leading up to that tragedy. The library is showing Human Capital, Film Movement’s mystery drama from Italy, this Thursday at 4 p.m. and at 6 p.m.   Running time is 110 minutes. The film is not rated but is not suitable for children. It will be shown in Italian with subtitles in English.

The son of a wealthy hedge-fund manager is dating the daughter of a real estate agent in dire financial straits. When the agent manipulates his way into the hedge fund, the tensions between status, money and ambition mount. The film also has a North Carolina connection: it was based on the novel by American writer, Stephen Amidon, a graduate of Wake Forest University.
