Posted on: June 21, 2015

You don’t expect to see Hollywood actor John Malkovitch starring in a Portuguese film but he has a home in Portugal and it was an easy commute.  The Murphy Library is showing Lines of Wellington the Film Movement historical drama starring Malkovitch this Thursday at 6 p.m. Running time is 151 minutes and it is not rated. In French, Portuguese and English with subtitles.

In September 1810, after invading Portugal, the French are defeated in a major battle. Although victorious, the British and Portuguese army defending Portugal under the Duke of Wellington (Malkovitch) is outnumbered and retreats to a fortified area.

Renown Chilean-born director Raul Ruiz was working on this film at the time of his death. His widow Valeria Sarmiento, also a director and editor finished it and included his favorite actors, Michel Piccoli, Catherine Deneuve and Isabelle Huppert in a special scene.
