Novelist and Cherokee Scout columnist Wally Avett to speak at Friends’ April 21 Potluck

Posted on: April 17, 2015

If you love novels, whether reading or maybe writing one, you will want to join the Friends of Murphy Library at their first potluck of 2015 this coming Tuesday, April 21 at 6 p.m. in the library’s meeting room. Cherokee Scout columnist and novelist Wally Avett is our guest of honor.

Avett’s education started him off on his writing journey. He majored in journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and put that to use in the best way possible – writing for the Cherokee Scout. Asking questions, listening and writing every day can turn one into a storyteller for life. And that’s not a bad thing. His wealth of North Carolina stories has resulted in two novels, Murder in Caney Fork and Last Bigfoot in Dixie and there’s more to come.

Friends’ members and prospective members are invited to bring their favorite potluck dish for the 6 p.m. dinner. Membership is $10 per year. Call the library at 837-2417 for details.
