Books bring comfort in WWII film this Thursday, February 12.

Posted on: February 8, 2015

Every January 27 the United Nations remembers those lost in World War II with International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Our next film at the Murphy Library also reminds us that books help carry us through the most difficult times.

On the cusp of the war, a young German girl is traveling with her brother on a train, but during the trip he dies. At the cemetery the grief-stricken girl finds a book lying near the grave and takes it with her, although she doesn’t know how to read.

The Murphy Library is showing The Book Thief, a 2013 film based on a New York Times bestseller about the lives of Germans living near the Polish border during World War II. The screenings are this Thursday at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Running time is 131 minutes and the film is rated PG-13, appropriate for mature teens.

The library also has the awarding winning book available to borrow. Call the library at 837-2417.
