Film Movement’s Ilo Ilo shares one family’s struggles economically and with each other

Posted on: November 16, 2014

One of the ways to relate to those living in foreign lands is to compare notes of how we get through tough times. In 1997 the Asian financial crisis put unimagined pressures on families in Singapore.

The Murphy Library is showing Ilo, Ilo, this Thursday, November 20 at 6 p.m. about a Singapore family struggling during the 1997 financial crisis. In Mandarin, Tagalog & English with English subtitles. 99 minutes. Film Movement permits one public screening and later library patrons can borrow the film.

“Ilo Ilo is an amazing debut, full of heart and intelligence.”
– Ang Lee, Oscar-winning director
