He is a former BBC journalist who later worked for Tony Blair and was let go for mistakes he made. She is an Irish woman who also made a mistake fifty years before, and as a young unwed mother was forced to give up her son.

The Murphy Public Library is showing Philomena, the 2013 award-winning film of the true story of their search for her now-grown son this Thursday at 6 p.m. Running time is 98 minutes and the film is rated PG-13.

Actors Judi Dench and Steve Coogan never let you catch them acting. Instead, they often get angry, sometimes smile quietly, and there are moments when their eyes fill with tears.

Coogan is a British comedian but to his credit he doesn’t go for the laughs. What he does use are his skills in storytelling – he co-wrote the screenplay.

Call the library at 837-2417.
