Wall-E, a sci-fi comedy adventure love story this Thursday at 6 at Murphy Public Library

Posted on: June 30, 2014

Trash is piled high in the opening scenes of the next movie at the Murphy Library. It takes a few moments to realize it is planet Earth — in the future. Nothing moves except a wide-eyed trash-compacting robot.

The Murphy Library is showing Wall-E the sci-fi comedy adventure love story about a lonely garbage collector robot with heart in honor of the Summer Reading Program. Rated G, the library will show it at 6 p.m. Thursday. It won an Oscar for “Best Animated Feature Film of the Year” and was nominated for its superb music, writing, editing, and sound.

Director Andrew Stanton who made Toy Story and Finding Nemo, has a knack for inspired filmmaking. He wanted the look of a feature film rather than simply animated, and invited Roger Deakins, one of the best cinematographers in Hollywood to help out. Deakins taught the animators lighting and how to frame a shot.

Then Stanton and his crew watched Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton silent films to learn storytelling with minimal dialogue. They succeeded. Call 837-2417 for details.
