Crafts and Craft Supplies Sale and Book Sale were a success!

Posted on: July 8, 2013

The crafts and craft supplies and book sale on June 20 and 21 went very well.  We made a total of $553 for the Spelling Bee, and crafters came up to me afterwards saying “Put me on the list for next year.”  They were wonderful, enthusiastic and helpful to those curious about different crafts .  We had 14 sellers — a record.

Crafters included Jo-Ann Allen, Margo Axelson, Jane Bowen and her friend Mayda, Terry Cavanaugh, Renate Craig, Sharon Francis, Jean Jackson, Margie King, Lois and Bob Lenz, Carol Orloff, Vivian Schell, Sammie Simpson, Sharon Wilson and several from Appalachian Crafters.JuneArtsandCraftssetup2

The demos by the sellers were a good addition to the sale. Jean Jackson demoed the “quilting revival” when rotary cutters replaced scissors.  Sammie Simpson showed “String Piecing” by machine and Quilts of Valor blocks, the quilt project for combat veterans.  Then Sharon Francis offered scrapbook and stamping, and Vivien Schell gave a crash course on knitting and Carol Orloff taught how to crochet.  Renata Craig demoed making borders for scrapbook pages and cards.

Former Friends board member Peg Russell donated 2 sewing machines.  We sold one and the other is available for the auction.  Quilter Sammie Simpson who had a table at the sale knows how to recondition sewing machines – she worked on this one, and took it home to oil it, so it’s in like-new condition.

We also had several donations of hand-embroidered doilies from the 1930’s and 40’s going into the Silent  Auction.

Thanks to Jan Ruiz, Elo-ly Bailey, Karen Francis, Gail MacLean, Kay Cameron, Irene Scrimshaw, Carey Randall and Sonia Roberts for all their valuable volunteer help.

The book sale in the library’s breezeway also did well – here I am watching a young reader search the bookshelves.  JuneArtsandCrafts&booksJulieChautinandlilgirl
