Colin Ferrell stars in English thriller at Murphy Library Thursday

Posted on: February 8, 2011

Two hit men are sent to a quaint town in Belgium while waiting for things to cool down back at home in England.  They are an odd couple.  One likes to sightsee.  The other likes a pretty blond in his sights.

The Murphy Library is showing “In Bruges,” a thriller full of drama and dark comedy, Thursday at 3: 15 p.m. and again at 6 p.m.  It stars Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes and is rated R for violence, bad language, and everything else.  Think of the movie Sideways, but with guns.  Running time is 107 minutes.

The quaint town is  Bruges, Belgium and it’s not possible to find a more beautiful place you’ve probably never visited.  The surroundings, however, are nothing compared to the colorful personalities of the two thugs.
All  the credit for the great dialogue goes to English writer and director Martin McDonagh an award-winning playwright. His plays such as “The Beauty Queen of Leenane” have found welcome homes both in London and on Broadway.  Call 837-2417 for details.
