Murphy Library offers food for your imagination and for your tummy!

Posted on: March 30, 2010

The Murphy Library is happy to feed your imagination.  The library is showing the children’s movie “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,” on Thursday at 3:15 p.m. and again at 6 p.m.  If you like inventions and imaginative stories, this is the movie for you.  It is rated PG.

Still hungry?

Friends of Murphy Library is sponsoring Community Night on Monday, April 5 at Brothers Restaurant from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.  Go and eat during those hours and Brothers will donate a portion of the night’s proceeds to the library for new books in the children’s area.

Thursday’s movie, “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” is based on the popular children’s book by Judi Barrett.  A boy has been inventing things all his life.  Most don’t work well.  Then he comes up with a machine that turns water into food.

That’s the good news.

When the boy accidentally catapults the machine into the sky, life gets interesting.  A light rain of hamburgers is not all that bad.  Then it starts to get stormy and watch out!

Television weatherman Al Roker plays a weatherman in the movie.  In real life, Roker has a great list of weather books for kids.  Among them, the Murphy Library has “Snowflake Bentley” the biography of a man who studied snowflakes, “Out of the Dust” about a girl living in the Dustbowl of 1930’s Oklahoma, and “Tornado,” a dog who lived through, what else, a tornado.

Call the library at 837-2417.
