Thanks to Steve and Cathy Cammick, owners of Cherokee Cellars Winery and Art Gallery in downtown Murphy, the Friends of Murphy Library are holding a Wine Tasting party this Friday, July 13 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person at the Murphy Library. Everyone is welcome.
Judith Beyer will be singing and playing her guitar. The lovely art on the walls is by Amanda Fullerton.
Here’s a chance to sit down with your favorite cookbook. We would greatly appreciate donations of sweet or savory finger foods that will complement wine. Just bring them with you Friday night. As always, thank you for your generosity (and for your sense of fun — last year’s party was a lot of fun!).
Cherokee Cellars Winery and Art Gallery is on Hickory Street across Valley River from the Curiosity Book Shoppe and behind Hicks Auto Repair. Tickets can be purchased at the library during the week or at the door the night of the party.

Friends of the Murphy Library are selling raffle tickets ($1.00 each or $5.00 for 6) for a beautiful original acrylic portrait of B. B. King, one of the most well-known musicians of our time. Funds raised will go toward the purchase of more adult books for our library.
Riley B. King (born September 16, 1925), known by the stage name B.B. King, is an American bluesguitarist and singer-songwriter. Rolling Stone magazine ranked him at #3 on its list of the “100 greatest guitarists of all time. B.B. King has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
This framed portrait, which currently can be seen opposite the front desk in the Murphy Library, was donated by local artist, James Ryder Murphy IV. Mr. Murphy attributes his artistic abilities to his parents: his father being a landscape & seascape artist and his Mom being a retired art teacher. He currently lives in Marble. He was featured in the March 2011 issue of the Smoky Mountain Free Press. In the article entitled “Energy Paintings”, Bryan Hughes writes, “To be in the company of Jimmy Murphy while looking at his paintings, you can’t but feel you are standing with a living legend”. In order to see more of his work and show schedule, please call (774) 216-9156. Visit his website at: www.jamesrydermurphyiv.com.
Come to the Murphy Library and purchase a raffle ticket ($1.00 each). We are sure that after seeing this wonderful acrylic masterpiece, you will want to purchase 6 tickets for $5.00. You will be helping to fund our local library and at the same time be eligible to be the owner of two living legends: B. B. King & James Ryder Murphy.
Greta Dawson loves the peace that painting gives her at her home in the hills between Murphy and Blue Ridge.
She sees art in everything: wood scraps, peacocks, sailboats, and sycamore trees.
Dawson will be showing and selling her colorful paintings and handmade greeting cards at the Murphy Public Library this Saturday, September 19, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. She is donating a portion of the proceeds to the library and to the Honduras mission at First United Methodist Church. Free refreshments will be served. Read the rest of this entry »
